Why I Wrote This Book

My book “JOYFUL RETIREMENT- The 7 Step Strategy for Healthy, Wealthy and Early Retirement” was published on 25th April 2021.

Yes, my friends and clients keep asking me if I have always wanted to write a book in my life and why I decided to do it now.

The idea was started a few years ago as I completed my CFP (Certified Financial Planner) course and started my professional practice. But all the specific things had held me back – lack of clarity, lack of time, and plenty of fear.

In 2020, my purpose became significantly more precise, and as a result, the fear started to reduce. I got more time to write due to the lockdown. Of course, I did not have any more time than before, but it became a priority, so I started to write with a more focused approach to finish the manuscript. Moreover, this lockdown helped me devote more time to writing the manuscript, making expert video interviews, and other activities related to the book.

It is not that easy for me to finish the book project. In this book writing and publishing journey, the difficulties were many folds. It was a challenging phase for me, but I enjoyed the entire trip and learned many new things. Whether writing the manuscript till late at night or doing research for long hours, I enjoyed it. I have requested many experts to be part of the expert video interviews as an expert and share their experience and thoughts about retirement planning. I have waited for more than two months to get a ‘yes’ reply from the experts I requested. Yes, I am very much thankful to all the experts who have shared their time, knowledge, experience, and advice with all the book readers. In another way, I am also grateful to all who just rejected my requests. It helped me to be more determined and focused on finishing my dream book project.

It’s a learning experience to make things happen when something clicks, or something does not click into place. But keep moving………….

My Three Reasons.

When I thought about my dream to become an author, I believe there are three reasons why I wrote this book.

1. A vital message to tell all

During the last 24 years of my professional career, I have experienced that most people face problems related to retirement life. The majority of Indians are not planning for a retirement period. Yes, indeed, they are not giving priority to this financial goal. Generally, it’s the last financial goal in their mind. The lack of importance for retirement planning leads to many problems in the second phase of life. They have issues like no regular monthly income, healthcare costing, the impact of inflation, living longer. But, the most important factor is low financial literacy in India.

A survey conducted by Standard & Poor’s shows that India is home to 17.5% of the world’s population, but nearly 76% of its adult population does not understand even basic financial concepts. For an average Indian, financial literacy is yet to become a priority. -Standard & Poor’s Global Financial Literacy Survey

“Only 24% of Indian respondents adequately understand key financial concepts, including risk diversification, inflation, and compound interest.”

And I think that is the case for everyone who is not planning for retirement due to low financial literacy in India.

2. Helping others to plan for retirement

My deep passion is to help people thrive and achieve financial freedom in their lives; it gives me satisfaction. But, on the other hand, I see so many people – friends, colleagues, clients – who are suffering from the effects of lack of knowledge about money management and proven steps to achieving financial freedom.

I feel determined to help reduce money management problems and enable people to live fulfilling lives leads to financial freedom. I do this mainly through 1-2-1 client interaction and corporate presentations, seminars, and investor awareness campaigns.

However, I know this way isn’t accessible to everyone who needs it, so I wanted to provide something easily accessed.

3. Leaving a legacy.

My satisfaction about knowing is that my written word will be for longer than I am. And living now, I am doing my professional practice to help my clients to achieve financial freedom. Yes, I also think that this book could help someone else plan for a happy retirement, giving me a feeling of happiness.
